UFCW Local 88

  1. Local 88 members who participate in the health and welfare program will have until January 31, 2012 to get their paid flu shot receipts turned into Zenith Administrators for reimbursement.

  2. UFCW members or their dependants that are graduating from high school may apply online at www.ufcw.org/scholarship for college scholarship applications from January 16 thru April 16, 2012. Members will be asked to register and submit a short essay. In addition to the winners chosen by our International Union, Local 88 will choose one $500.00, Colonel Nicholas M. Blassie Scholarship winner.

  3. Any member who has been in our union for 25 years and has not received a 25 year award, is urged to contact the union hall. Plans are again being made for our award dinner to honor our long standing members. Local 88 will be contacting the eligible members soon. If you are not contacted and have been a member for 25 years, please contact us so that we do not miss anyone.

  4. The UFCW National Pension Summit meeting will be held February 15-17, 2012. President Straher will be attending.

  5. The officers and staff would like to congratulate Secretary-Treasurer Mel Meyer on his retirement effective February 24, 2012. Thanks to Mel for his dedication and service to our local. We wish him all the best upon his retirement.

  6. Up to one week of unused vacation for 2011, will be paid by February 15, 2012 for member who work at Schnuck Markets, Dierberg Markets, and Shop n Save.

  7. Local 88 proudly supports one of its members, Brother Nick Guccione, who is running for mayor of Wentzville, MO. Members who would like to help in his campaign may contact his website, www.guccione4mayor.com

  8. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. at the union hall. New members must arrive before 6:45 p.m. for new member orientation.
